WEEK 9 lady is…Alex Morris!

Yahey there,

The number 9  and I have an odd relationship.  I find that I am surrounded by 9′s, and for this reason it spooks me out a bit. I was born in the ninth month, on the 27th (2 + 7 = 9), the last 3 houses i’ve lived in have all been number 9′s, i catch the 333 bus to work, and sometimes find random paraphernalia with number 9′s written on it hanging about my feet – like playing cards or stickers.  I have yet to work out whether the number 9 is friend or foe…but either way it kind of gives me the willies…

Anywho, i digress…and whilst it is Week 9 (om%@&^%^#&%gozzle)…I must place such ‘number mysteries’ aside and focus on the lovely lady: Alex Morris, who I have the pleasure of making a frock for this week.

I only met Alex a couple of months ago, but she is a complete delight!  I will have to remember to ask her how she feels about the number 9…perhaps i’ll think about including it as a regular question on my quiz sheet.

What a delightful ‘foofing of the hair’ motion the above picture depicts.

wow.

I think I have mentioned to you all before that my family home has been under renovation for quite some time – 2 years to be exact. Recently, things have taken a turn for the ‘near finished’ and after so long waiting, there is a very large part of me yelling “huzzaya” in celebration.  Yet whilst it’s nice that we no longer have to live in ‘tarp city’ and say, “Goodmorning” to 15 builders each day, it nonetheless means that my crafty times in shelter have been put to death.  With the end in sight, I have been relocated to the  backyard…i’m now hanging out with the potplants - and I’m not entirely thrilled.

Look, it’s not entirely untrue that I leave a little bit of a mess behind when I work. Hot glue, silk fibres, and my general lack of enjoying ‘the clean up’ are not well received by Mrs Burke - who often finds various crannies of her house stuffed with sequins, needles,  and the occasional pom pom.

From that point of view I can understand the exile…but from a weather enduring perspective, I feel that the shift is not so rational – particularly after today.

My parents delivered the news of my exeunt last week, informing me that my crafting ways were no longer welcome in the family home. Threatening to tear me a new nostril if i didn’t gather my things and shuffle on out, I responded to their threats like a mature young woman.  I sulked.  Probably for a couple of days. Eventually however, I conceded and readied my items for a trip outside.  My items weren’t too pleased.

Today was my first day of outdoor sewing.  Whilst admittedly it all began well, at about one o’ clock I started to notice that a powerful wind was starting to blow things off my work bench.  At first my internal ‘concern metre’ remained untroubled, but as specks of rain began to fall it became apparent that it was time to pack up – and quickly. Shoving headbands into boxes and badges into storage draws, the rainfall escalated so fast that I started to put my panic jacket on.

Within the minute things got even more extreme…it was as though 10,000, well hydrated, horses had chosen to urinate atop of me. I started to yell and allerted the parentals, who rushed out to help me cover things up and rush my desk out of the rain.

As my dad rescued my sewing machine from certain death…a near by pipe exploded from the base before starting to shoot out water from a tiny hole in the centre.  That bit was quite funny…we all did out embarrassing bend-over-and-clutch-the-stomach-whilst-wheezing-silently laugh. Soonafter other pipes started exploding – good job plumbers. I’m pretty sure they said our backyard was leak proof.

Jazz started to get less amusing when the protective shelter of the carport (where we were stashing all my stuff) decided to also flood over and create a mini-waterfall around the entire area.  Terriffic.

I was pretty impressed as to how quickly my parents and I went from completing genteel afternoon activities to shouting “HEAVE! SWEEP! HEAVE!” as we tried to unflood the area with buckets, brooms and a suprisingly effective sweeping motion with my right shoe.  All in all, I think we would do really well on a ship.

So that’s my story for today. Just thought I should share.

It’s ALIDAUGHTER!!!

This week I am making a dress for one of my best friends in the WHOLE WORLD. Her name is Alison…or ‘Alidaughter’ if I’m feeling clever…and she is such a marvellous lady.  Not only has she provided me with many a fun time (and a frequent drive around greater Brisbane), but she also spends her days helping sick kids. She’s incredible. Love her too….

Dress Six!!!

Hey lovelies,

So some time ago I had a painting exhibit and featured some images of ‘Blenhooray’:  a crazy character who continues to live close to my heart (specifically next to my ribcage and to the left of my internal pineapple).

Above Photo from Blenhooray’s debutant at my Ric’s painting exhibit ‘Let’s Share Our Eyeballs’, December 2009.

This dress was one of the first I designed for this project (see above picture).  Admiring Caitlin’s quirky sense of style I knew she would be the perfect recipient of this dress…and hurrah, she totes was! Hope you likey, I DO!!!

dinner time! xoxoxo
