226: a lilac dress!

To match the loveliness of this day, and all the delightful little faces I met throughout it, I had to make something pretty spesh…so here’s this dress! xo
STARLIGHT!
This afternoon I had the opportunity to head into the Starlight Express room at the Mater Children’s hospital to design dresses, peg models, crowns and bracelets with the kids who found themselves in need of some of the cheeriness the room had to offer. This has to have been one of the best experiences I have had in the longest time. It emphasised so powerfully to me why I am doing this whole dress making challenge – the Starlight foundation is truly a fantastic charity who bring sunshine into the lives of kids facing often the cloudiest of situations. I met so many lovely, brave little faces who all showed off their creative talents to create some of the below images.

If you haven’t already, please consider making a small donation to the Starlight Foundation, whether it be through this project, or the Starlight website. Honestly, the work they do is so essential, and really does brighten the lives of seriously ill kids.
I will be merrilly bringing some of their designs so life over the next few weeks! So stay tuned! Hurrah! xo
a sherbetty number

this is a tiny picture but my phone died and i had to use my ‘photobooth’ thing on my laptop instead! what a world. xo
Dress 220…a little bit swanny.

To celebrate the end of my retail career (for now) and foray into a world of full time sewing and frivolity I made this little white number! Just so you know, this will be the first christmas in almost 6 years that I will not be doing the ‘retail thing’ at ye old Chermside (aka Chermobyl) shopping centre. What a freaking bonanza.
On a side note, I have to say that I am a little bit excited about some happenings that are occurring next week. After some weeks of planning and nutting-out I am going to be heading into the Starlight room at the Mater Hospital and designing dresses, crowns and fashionable peg people with the kiddies there. Afterwards I will begin bringing their various creations to life in my own sewing room, and posting the results to this weblog. This has been something I have wanted to do for such a long time and it is finally happening – Eeeeee! I totally can’t wait!
Can’t wait to let you all know how it goes!
XO
