Sometimes it can be hard to say, “I’m sorry”…particularly when it comes to the little things. The everyday human might think, why bother? I’m sure this little slip up doesn’t even matter and yet, this is the point where I really struggle. I am a chronic ‘stewer’. Once I think I have done something wrong, or haven’t said the right thing, I can’t let it go. I stew on it and stew on it, until I have become a fully boiled, anxious, soup. It would seem that the easy solution to this would be verbally apologising – just confronting the issue head on, and saying, “I DID THE WRONG”. But, it’s not as easy as this for me. My anxious soup is counter balanced by a really delicious, stubborn, pie…which I am so good at baking, and then feeding to myself. Often I will feel like I have done something wrong and then am too stubborn to allow myself to apologise. It can be a really vicious cycle that leads to lots of fretting and general annoyance to the people around me…who I then feel like I should also be apologising to because I have been talking so incessantly about something so petty…but then that whole stubborness thing comes into play…and now here we are again. So, when it comes to doing things wrong, like accidentally spoiling the end of a TV show, incorrectly tagging people on social media, or not appropriately responding when someone tells me they have broken up with the love-of-their-life…I decided that I needed to find a better way to confront these mistakes…and how better than with the assistance of a pom?
Assuming there are others out there that are in need of a little assistance when it comes to saying sorry for the little things, I thought I would show you how to prepare your own apology pom pom. It’s really very easy.
You will need:
1 x reason to apologise
1 x pom pom (handmade is always ideal)
1 x toothpick
1 x black texta
1 x glue (preferrably hot)
1 x scissors
1 x rectangular strip of cardboard
To make your Apomogy, you will need to cut yourself up a handsome rectangle of white cardboard. Then you will need to write what you are apologising for on the cardboard. Once this is done, glue the strip of cardboard to your toothpick.
The next step is super easy, but really the most satisfying part of the exercise, and that is jamming your little sign of apology into your prepared pom pom.
And then VOILA, you are done. But don’t let me stop you there. Please feel free to embrace the sensation of being an OVER APOMOGISER and showering all your friends…or perhaps just the same friend…in apologies. They can be big things, little things, silly things, or things that are out of your control. Whatever the thing is that you want to apologise for, let your heart run wild and express it all through the power of a pom.
This is an example of an apology for something I have no control over but am truly and profoundly sorry for. I might leave this on the doorstep of my local Pizza Hut. Hopefully they will appreciate my craft-workmanship and take on board my feelings. Perhaps this humble pom will make them see the error of their ways.
I hope you have found this project useful. I would love to see your own apology poms, so feel free to tag @imakestagram on the instagram if you feel so inclined, and share it with my eyeballs. I would really love to see.
