Last week was a great week on the making front. I have a few little projects in the works at the moment, one of which is a Paper Runway event that I need to make a frock for. As such, last week saw me making a start on the garment I will be showcasing in the event. I am making the piece using hundreds of napkins, which I am lovingly fringing, twizzling, and then affixing to a canvas garment base. The task has been somewhat laborious, but I am totally loving the result, which as you can see, is a Cuban-Pete-worthy-fringe-fest! You should all try making one too! It is super easy…just time consuming. This piece is also an example of what I like to call FUNDANE…which is essentially the concept of taking something mundane, and through the powers of jazziness (usually involving hot glue) just making it 10 times more FUN! In this instance, the humble napkin has been transformed into something you SO wouldn’t want to wipe your mouth on!
After this fringe-festivus, it was time to do a little bit of birthday-oriented celebrating! Heading out to one of my favourite Asian food places, Happy Boy on Friday night…Saturday saw me recovering from the festivites with some mood boarding and collaging. I’m sure you crafty types can relate, but I get in such a funky mood when I haven’t had time to sit down and just scribble some things out. Lately these brief crafty requiems have been harder and harder to come by! So it was great to have some quiet moments to just sit down and scribble some things out (as you can see in the below snap, Daisy is always close by to help out too).
Speaking of Birthdays, just out the totally phenom Gorman boots that my husband Thomas got me!
As it was my Birthday weekend, it was obvious that I needed to do two things: get a Zinger Burger from KFC…and cover my head in pom poms. Needless to say…both of these goals were achieved.
This weekend I also managed to squeeze in a quick swamping of these dreamy silver sunglasses. These little dreams are now available on my etsy store. Get your hands on them, along with some of my other recent makings, here.
I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned that Daisy and I share a birthday?! It was so lovely getting to celebrate with this furry darling and share in excellent things like hugs, presents and CHICKEN NUGGETS!
All in all, it has been an ideal week. Thanks for reading!
