Make old stuff GREAT again!

I have been wanting to try this fun idea for a while now, and after an op shopping adventure this morning, I thought it only right to take the afternoon to give it a whirl! It’s a really fun project, and an ideal way to breathe fresh life into things you may have gotten a little tired of.  SO to do this yourself, you will need the following:

  • An old denim jacket (though you could honestly do this to anything…GAH imagine this scenario on jeans!)
  • Acrylic paint.  I have used neon orange/white/pink and aqua
  • Wool to match, or slightly lighter than, these above ^ colours
  • Some cotton buds and a skinny paint brush
  • 3-4 episodes of your fav tv show to watch while you’re completing this tutorial.

Once you’ve gathered these bits and bobs, you are ready to start making your item FAB!  To begin…

Prepare your paint colours.  I find adding white to my paint gives them a nice pastel glow – particularly the neon colourways.

Once you have mixed your paints, start painting your chosen design.  I have gone for a range of dots, squiggles, dashes and wings.  I apply both with a cotton bud because it seems to make it easier, but if you find you like using a paintbrush, whip out something skinny with tight bristles.

Once you’re happy with you’re paint job, let your handy work dry.  After about 10-15 minutes you will be ready to begin my FAV part of this crafty mission…stitching over your design.  I just used a basic stitch to do this, and went for slightly lighter coloured yarn to the colours of the shapes I painted. I decided to leave my neon orange dots sans stitch, but again, it’s totally up to you as to how you approach this!

Depending on how elaborate your design is, this stitching phase could take you a pretty solid amount of time to complete. As such, I recommend parking yourself in front of the tv with a chilled beverage and perhaps a sausage dog to keep you company. Before you know it, a couple of hours will have passed and BOOM you have a fabby new jacket, customised entirely to your taste…
