March has come and gone like a strong breeze. I have spent the last month working solidly on a few big projects, one of which is my Apomogy Exhibit – which I am currently in the final throws of work on. I am absolutely itching to share one particularly jazzy pieces I have made, but I feel like I need to wait until it is properly finished and set up in the space before I can reveal it.
Working on apomogy has been such a fascinating journey for me. I am continuously hooked by the one-line confessions that get submitted to me each day, and I can’t help but reflect on the weirdness of the fact that my studio is filled with the apologies of hundreds of strangers. This is in part because I feel like the apomogies have an odd energy about them…like they are pulsing with a story – but perhaps this is just the superstitious Maltese woman in me. This desire to know MORE is what inspired me to start the Apomogy podcast (which can be listened to here). I am doing my next anonymous interview next week, so the next episode should be up pretty soon!
Needless to say, I don’t think I have ever uttered the words pom pom more than I have in recent weeks. I suspect my friends and family are sick to death of me, as whenever they want to hang out, I suggest us integrating pom-pomming into the equation….So when the pom poms get too much, I switch it up and move on to fake flowers instead. This above snap is the first self-portrait I have taken in a while and I’m pretty glad to add it to the collection. I like how in this one, I can’t be seen at all. For all anyone knows it could just be a mannequin under there…or someone else entirely! I think I am going to keep playing with this concept of disguise and transformation through different materials.
In other news, I am still blogging for BONDS, and my most recent project for them was these fun DIY letters! You can see the full project here… Don’t feel like you have to make this particular phrase! Literally anything works! The simplest phrase becomes 10 x cuter once it is fringed.
Some of my scribbles…
A glimpse of how Apomogy is unfolding! If your Saturday night is free then you should definitely come along! There will be Ruby The Little Red Ice Cream Van, an Apomogy workshop, and hopefully lots of things to read with your eyes and talk with your mouth.
That’s all from me for now! Feast your eyes on some little snaps from my life over the last little while…
