Splendour in the Craft 2017

Another year, another Splendour in the Craft! This will be our fourth year hosting the fine affair! What a joy it is to make the journey to Byron each year to co-host a weekend of workshops alongside the delightful Patience Hodgson.  It is truly a calendar event we look forward to, eagerly awaiting all the merry faces that come by to create and say hello!

It’s no secret that I am pretty keen for any opportunity to swamp myself in glitter. As such, each year I endeavour to make Pae and I sparkly coordinated outfits to wear in the Craft Tent.  This year I went for tinsel jackets – highlighted by fabulously-fishy outfits from Jericho Road clothing – and Tinsel Tuxedos, which I lovingly bedazzled whilst watching the Handmaid’s Tale last week (a perfect way to spend an evening). It was actually pretty crazy to see how many people this year also DIY’d themselves tinsel jackets for the festival!  It feels like tinsel as a central fabrication is really taking off, which is very good news for me! I don’t want to say I started this trend…but I also want to say, I THINK I STARTED THIS TREND!!  And that’s pretty cool!

One of my favourite workshops this year was the felt-bear-making workshop with the mastermind behind the cutie costumes of Monkey Monkey Shake Shake.  This gal is so clever and has such a beautiful imagination.  Just look at these bear hats!!

This gingham one was particularly adorable!

Keeping our energy up at the tent was easy with DELICIOUS snacks from Southside Tearoom. Lychee kombucha and Oreo brownies were just some of the sensational offerings on the menu. Serving up the snacks were the gorgeous Ruby and Richie, who kept us fed and giggling throughout the day.

Throughout the weekend we screen printed tote bags, made cutie capes, bedazzled sunglasses, and fashioned charming charm bracelets with Eachtoown.  Kirsten was lovely enough to let me borrow some of her acrylic goodies to make the below frames for her (as if I could possibly resist?!).

It’s hard to believe that the festival is already over!  It was such a joy to see so many familiar faces and also meet a whole bunch of new ones!  Thanks to Tory, Gabe and Andy for having us in the tent, it’s always such fun!

Until next time! xx
